Graduate Experience
Graduate Diaries- Part 2
Earlier this year, I shared my experiences of being a new graduate at Crescar and what it meant to be the first on its Graduate Programme. I was approaching my first anniversary and was in a phase of transition in my role as my responsibilities grew to include more HR and business operations support.
Now that the one-year marker has officially passed, I was asked to share my reflections and updates. Initially, I didn’t think I had much to say. My comfort and confidence have grown (along with my workload), and naturally, I’m feeling more settled in my role and responsibilities. However, when a colleague was quick to point out my achievements in setting up an entire new office in Stockport, from sourcing to opening, handling growing complexity in multinational HR requirements and being more involved in business operations, it became clear that I had more to say than I realised.
Supporting people around the world
One of my biggest undertakings in recent months has been enrolling in a CIPD qualification and getting to grips with international employment laws. From the day-to-day admin of HR to handling contracts of employment, a key focus has been implementing processes that increase productivity and repeatability. Some of the international visa and work permit processes have taken a fair deal of head scratching and I’m convinced there must be better programmes and processes I can implement!
As the team continues to expand globally, another thing I’m keen to ensure is cultural continuity. It’s a challenge when working across different time zones and geographical borders, but the collaborative, open-door approach we have at Crescar provides a platform for every team member to be heard, as every opinion and idea is valued. Finding ways to bring a global team together in a meaningful way, beyond the day-to-day, is something I’m actively working on, and any ideas from seasoned experts are very much welcomed!
Proudest achievements – an update
Since my last article, I’ve become significantly more immersed in the world of HR, from upcoming changes to UK employment laws to the complexities of Middle Eastern visas. One of my proudest achievements over the past few months has been strengthening our people processes and embedding a more robust structure across the business. Whether it’s probation periods, annual reviews or recruitment, by implementing revised and clearer frameworks, as the team continues to grow, we now have fortified foundations to support our growth. These are the unsung necessities of corporate life, but getting them right matters, and I’m confident that we’re in a stronger position as a result.
What’s next
Looking ahead, the ambition is to complete my CIPD qualification, ensure the frameworks I’ve put in place are working as they should, and find ways to automate certain processes along the way.
I’ve really enjoyed getting stuck into HR and Culture, and it’s an area I’m excited to expand on at Crescar. It’s very much a blank sheet that’s waiting for my stamp, and I have plenty of ideas I’d like to bring to life.
For any graduate who comes into the Crescar Graduate programme, my advice would be to keep your mind open and throw yourself into every given opportunity. 12 months ago, I could not have imagined setting off down the path of People and Culture with HR, and yet here I am, beyond excited to see what I can do next!
