Meet the Team
Miles Evans
On a clammy, heatwave-drenched day, we sat down with Miles Evans to talk about his role at Crescar. As a newer member of the team, Miles has been involved in several projects to date, and in this chat, we covered his experiences in the company, the variety of projects he’s worked on and why the Fallas festival was a pleasant surprise.
Interviewer: Let’s start with your role at Crescar, how long have you been with the company and what do get up to?
Miles: I’ve been here just over a year, and my time is concentrated on bid and mobilisation management. I’ve really enjoyed learning about the two disciplines and playing my part to support the team.
My role sits at an interesting intersection as I can see how it buys back time for more senior stakeholders in a project to have junior teammates track the project and ensure delivery of content in line with both client and internal expectations.
Currently, I’m learning by doing and getting involved in multiple projects to understand and act on different stakeholders’ needs. There are a lot of nuances to successful bid management and mobilisation, and the fast-paced energy of the process may be stressful for some, but it’s really stimulating for me.
Interviewer: I’d firmly be in the stressed camp!
Miles: I think many people would be.
Interviewer: Where would you like to be 12-18 months from now?
Miles: I’d like to be independently leading on a bid with the confidence and skills I’m currently nurturing and honing.
What I’ve realised in this role is that things are never linear. The scene is always changing, so it’s important to be adaptable and flexible for your client and to your diary – changing things last minute to accommodate a project need.
I’ve also really enjoyed working on projects across the country; it’s been interesting to see how different local authorities have approached their own devolution programmes in transport and learning from the success of The Bee Network in Manchester, first-hand provides a blueprint for what is possible in local authorities with some clever and intuitive joined-up thinking.
Interviewer: To end on a lighter note, do you have any travel recommendations?
Miles: I recently enjoyed a hiking holiday in Vaujany in France, the skiing resort transforms into an amazing hiking location and if you enjoy physical holidays, it’s a place I’d highly recommend. From Vaujany, we travelled up to Lake Annecy which is serenely beautiful and I can see why it’s called the ‘Pearl of the French Alps.’
Interviewer: And what about a shorter trip away?
Miles: A friend and I went to Valencia a short while back which happened to coincide with their vibrant Fallas Festival, a huge Spring celebration native to the city with all the joy and colour you would expect from Spain. I think I’ll be heading back there before long!
Interviewer: You have me sold. Thanks, Miles!
